Sun Optics USA P/N SM4805 The Sun Optics USA Shotgun Saddle Mount is the newest and strongest saddle mount on the market today. Re-designed by hunters for hunters Sun Optics USA has done away with the weaker see-thru design (or as many of us would call peep hole) and added .200 thousandths to the thickness of the rail creating a more rigid, recoil absorbing platform. At the same time they have lowered the overall height of the mount creating a lower profile, perfectly contoured mount for your Remington 12, 16, 20 gauge. If this was not enough they have added a Picatinny cut or style rail that increases the ring position choices or eye relief positions from 8 slots to 14 slots (BIG DIFFERENCE). 7/8" wide rail works with any Weaver style rings. Mine didn't fit.May 08, 2013
By John Smith
I bought this for my Remington 870 Express for the ability to mount an optic on it. I could almost tell, before I even attempted to bolt it on that it sat a bit lumpy over the top of the gun and probably wouldn't fit correctly. At this point I double checked the model on the web (SM4805)to verify it was the correct model. I was a bit surprised since I have a buddy with the same 870 who bought the same rail and it fit like a glove. At this point, I probably should have returned it and maybe have gotten lucky on a replacement fitting but why buy a dremel if your never going to use it? After an hour of grinding away and test fitting (removing very small amounts of material each time) I finally got it to fit on the gun.
Then I had two thoughts..
1) It's going to be a pain in the ass to remove this every time I want to clean my shotgun since it's still not a 100% perfect fit.
2) Since it never sat right to begin with, it might be an adventure (or not even possible) to get my sight sighted in since I'm sure it's not exactly level anymore.
So.. This is going in the trash. I understand I should have returned it before I started messing around with it but who can really resist the urge to "make something fit!". Anyways, some fit and some don't. If you don't mind playing some games, and maybe having to send yours back then feel free to try buying one, but don't say I didn't warn you.
